Our Story
We grew up three streets apart in Mombasa but didn't actually meet until university, at a beach cleanup neither of us particularly wanted to attend. Otieno spent the whole afternoon trying to make Imani laugh; it worked, eventually, somewhere around the third terrible joke. We've spent every year since finding our way back to the coast — for birthdays, for no reason at all, for the quiet of the tide going out in the evening. Otieno proposed at sunset on Diani Beach, in the same stretch of sand where that first cleanup happened, down to the same patch of shoreline. We can't imagine celebrating anywhere else but home, by the water, surrounded by the people who've watched our story unfold from the very start. Thank you for making the journey to be with us.
